May 30-Major Tom’s

This beer is unique in that it is labeled as a Pomegranate Wheat which is code for a fruit beer. This Colorado beer is brewed by Fort Collins Brewery out of Fort Collins, CO. I am not a fan of most fruit beers and Major Tom’s would not be a top choice for me. 4.8% […]

Norman Vincent Peale-Power of Positive Thinking

The summer sometimes lends itself to cleaning and getting organized when you work at a university. I went to clean out part of my desk drawer and came across a little pamphlet called Thought Conditioners by Norman Vincent Peale. I received this motivational gem from a coaching colleague and friend Billy Lee. He gave it […]

May 29-Yards IPA

Went back to my Pennsylvania Variety Beer Pack from Yards Brewing and grabbed their IPA. Yards Brewing Company is located in Philadelphia, PA and was founded 1994. This IPA is packed with hops and contains 7.0% ABV. This beer gets rated very good or excellent by the websites beer advocate and rate beer. Give it […]

May 28-Birra Moretti

Went International tonight with a beer my neighbor brought me. Birra Moretti is brewed by Heineken Italia SpA in Milan, Italy. A rather dull and bland lager that I had high hopes for but it did not deliver. 4.8% ABV and is one of the beers I drank this year I would not recommend.

May 27-Red Banshee

A really good Colorado beer with a neat name Red Banshee. Brewed by Fort Collins Brewery which is located right in Ft Collins, CO. An enjoyable American amber ale. Good balance of flavor and is easy to drink. Would go well at a pig picking. Checks in at 5.3% ABV & receives okay to good […]

May 26-Philadelphia Pale Ale

Got to attend a great Memorial Day Pool Party/Bocce Tournament with a group of wonderful friends. I brought along a couple of beers to share with the group including a Pennsylvania Beer called Philadelphia Pale Ale from Yards Brewing Company which is located in Philadelphia.  Philadelphia Pale Ale was named one of the best Pale […]

May 25-Bud Light Lime

I had to drive to a wedding today at Pawleys Island, SC. Drive was 2:15 from our house so as designated driver only could have one beer. The ONLY beer served at the reception I have not drank this year was a Bud Light Lime. Not proud of my choice but it is a different […]

May-24 Extra Special Ale

Today’s beer is from the City of Brotherly Love Philadelphia, PA and comes from Yards Brewing Company.  The name is straight forward Extra Special Ale and is the first beer the company ever brewed. 6.0% ABV and rated very good to good by websites. Yards website claims it is a keg-conditioned ale with a sack full […]

Life Lessons from Kayaking

Yesterday I experienced a first-I went Kayaking down the Lumber River. The trip reminded me and taught me some important life lessons. More about those lessons later. The Lumber River is located in south-central North Carolina in the flat Coastal Plain. The river’s headwaters are known as Drowning Creek; the waterway known as the Lumber […]
