One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for August 17, 2015.
My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.
This weekend the Kiwanis Club of Robeson/Lumberton conducted their annual All-American Golf Tournament at Pinecrest Country Club. Playing as partners in this tournament were Tony Jenkins and Joe Osman. Tony and his wife Tina live in Southern Pines, NC but are former residents of Lumberton, NC and great friends. The golf tournament was a great excuse to go to dinner with them on Saturday night and get caught up with each other. We would have had more time to hang out on Saturday night but a 8:16 a.m. Sunday tee time beckoned the golfing twosome of Osman and Jenkins.

Tony and Tina both have great careers in Moore County and that is what caused them to relocate. Tony works for Atex Technologies and Tiny is a nursing faculty member at Sandhills Community College.
We miss having Tony as a neighbor. We have lost count of all the spontaneous times we would just get together on a moment’s notice while they were living in Lumberton. Sitting in their backyard or just chilling on our front porch involved many laughs, great blues music, and an occassional cold beer or two. We also made road trips together that always turned out memorable. Charleston, the beach, Fayetteville, or any across town trip with Tony was going to be a great time.
Tony while he lived in Robeson County got involved and gave back especially if it involved children. He was an important leader in the Kiwanis Club and was elected to the Robeson County School Board.
Atex develops and manufactures custom textile components that change the way people live. They do custom textile implantables that are used in many different ways. Tony job focuses on new business development which means lots of travel. He has an engaging personality and a love for adventure so traveling to Germany, China, and other parts of Europe suits him well.
The travel does mean he sometimes is seperated from his family and that is a source of pride for him. Photo below shows Larson (Tony’s son), Fred (Tony’s dad), and Tony. The Jenkins men share a lot of great core values.
Tony has great pride in his son and friend-Larson Jenkins.

Moving on up
Larson Jenkins is a rising 10th grader at Pinecrest High School. He is extremely bright, polite, caring, athletic, and very civic minded. He is very close to becoming an Eagle Scout and is involved in high school football and lacrosse.
Larson has always been a avid reader a trait he got from both of his parents with an extra push from his mom Tina. He is a good scuba diver and has an affinity for the outdoors including camping and dove hunting.
On this trip back to Lumberton we had to deal with the realization that the little boy Larson we knew going to Presbyterian Pre-School in Lumberton is now driving.
He is moving on up. His climb to success is far from complete.
I remember playing golf with Tony and Larson when he was about 8 Nice kid then and nice young man now
