A friend of a friend-Evelyn Price – Jenna Richardson-August 18

One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for August 18, 2015.

My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.

At First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton, NC  on Sunday I saw Mitch McGill who is the husband of UNC Pembroke’s new Volleyball Coach Ellen McGill. Mitch and Ellen moved to Lumberton, NC from Colorado where Ellen was the Head Volleyball Coach for six years at Trinidad Junior College in Alamosa, CO. Mitch was by himself in church because Ellen’s volleyball team had practice. That reminded me of just how supportive the spouse of a college coach needs to be. One of those supportive spouse beside Mitch McGill is Jenna Richardson the wife of UNC Pembroke Football Coach Shane Richardson.

Jenna Richardson is the mom to four beautiful children that have all been born in Lumberton, NC. All four have been born in the span of less than 8 years. She and her husband arrived in North Carolina in January 2006 as newlyweds.  The first house they rented was located on Water Street right next door to Erich Von Hackney. Today they live close to Tanglewood Elementary School on West 33rd Street.

Photo below is of Jenna and Shane with their four children including three sons – Ford, Jude and Bear – and a daughter, Bo.

Last week Jenna has to start sharing her husband with 120 other young men on the UNCP Football Team. Shane began football practice on August 12th and for the next 6 months he like many other coaches will be consumed with practice, games, and of course recruiting.

Jenna meanwhile will be taking care of school, homework, car pooling, laundry, and raising her family with the strongest spiritual foundation she can provide. Jenna is a wonderful, mom, wife, friend, and cheerleader to her husband’s career. That is what successful coaches all seem to have in common is a spouse who can let him/her focus on the job.

Jenna gets some help in taking care of her family from a great circle of friends and other coaches wives. It never ceases to amaze me when you see Jenna out somewhere how beautiful and well dressed she is. Jenna has a fabulous next door neighbor and landlord who also has an eye for fashion named Evelyn Price.

The Impeccable Dressed Women

Evelyn Price is a retired businesswomen who ran a successful upscale women’s clothing store in Lumberton, NC for may years called the Fashion Bar. It was located on 604 Elm Street until Ms. Evelyn decided to retire.

This past Sunday I saw Evelyn in church with some good friends of hers Victor and Nell Lyons. She as always was impeccably dressed. She has a wonderful reputation in the community and is still serving on the local Chamber of Commerce as a Board Member. She also has been involved with Robeson Community College.

Evelyn taste for fashion doesn’t stop with clothes. Her home on the corner of Rowland and West 33rd Street in Lumberton has a wonderful yard complete with a fabulous garden. On my early morning runs thru the Tanglewood neighborhood in the spring and summer I would marvel how impressive it is.

Evelyn has been a lifesaver to a lot of UNC Pembroke coaches. She has been a landlord for our Men’s Basketball Coach Ben Miller and his dad Eldon Miller for a short period of time. Then Ben Miller moved his family from Missouri into the house. Today it is the Richardson’s living next door to Evelyn.

I am not sure that the Impeccable Dressed Women-Ms. Evelyn Price knows how supportive she has been to the coaches at UNCP. I know I do.
