A friend of a friend-Linda Branch-William Gentry-August 22

One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for August 22, 2015.

My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.

On Wednesday I got to attend a joint meeting between the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Robeson, and Lumberton Rotary as they invited North Carolina Eight District Congressman Richard Hudson to speak. The Lumberton Chamber President this year is Linda Branch and the Kiwanis President is William Gentry. The meeting time for this event was the normal time for Kiwanis to meet and William Gentry got to sue a personal privilege to brag on his club’s recent fundraising success with their golf tournament. He told the crowd that Kiwanians “Keep it Booming”

William Gentry is a man that really believes in the Kiwanis mission is “to serve the children of the world”. He does that by really getting engaged in our local community. William is a retired educator. I have a great appreciation for him on a lot of levels including that if a dad. My oldest son Geoff and his son Allan Gentry were great friends during high school and during their college days. In fact Allan even got to coach rec basketball and had Geoff’s brother Mack on his team.

William has been a leader for a number of signature events for the Kiwanis Club during the past year.

In November 2014 the club held their 52nd Kiwanis of Robeson – Lumberton Pancake Festival! They served 2000 plates of pancakes and sausage and had the most fun doing it! William was one of the big cheerleaders who always thanks everyone that turns out – Kiwanians, non- Kiwanian helpers and hundreds upon hundreds of hungry Robeson County faithful citizens who love pancakes, great fellowship and children!

William is not the only President attending the event on Tuesday that serves our community so does his friend Linda Branch.

Female Leadership

Back in January Linda Branch owner of Storage Solutions, Inc. and Coldwell Banker Realty was named Chairman of the Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She received the gavel from Outgoing Chairman Scott McLean owner of Lumberton Bowling Center on January 30th at the Chamber’s Chairman’s Gala at Pinecrest Country Club.

Linda in our community is not new to service and helping others. In 2014 she and her dance partner Allan Campbell were able to win the Robeson County “Dancing with the Stars” competition.  They pulled off a roaring 20’s theme dance number that had the entire crowd energized.

Linda and Allan also did a  wonderful job of raising money that went back to help our community fund the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

On Wednesday at lunch I looked at the leadership of our communities civic organizations and smiled. On Wednesday I looked at Linda Branch and William Gentry and know they care about our children.

As William Gentry always say “Keep it Booming”.
