A friend of a friend – Damon Blackley-Lori Blackley-September 6

One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for September 6, 2015.

My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.

This past week has been one where I have done a lot of reflecting. I have thought about how we all go thru different cycles or phases of our lives. Often we think when we are in the midst of one of those phases that it will be there for ever but that is not true. Each phase over time leads to another.

As I sat in church today next to a great family I could see a number of different phases all unfolding before my eyes. I was sitting next to Lori Beck Blackley, her husband, three children and her parents Mary and Woody Beck. What got me thinking was during the announcements Lori’s husband boldly announced to the pastor Dr. David Ruth “12 years ago today you married Lori and I”.

Well twelve years later the honeymoon phase of Lori’s life is over. She is a mom to three kids and has a career as a chiropractor. She is in a phase of her life where she probably feels she is constantly treading water to stay afloat. One thing for sure Lori is going thru this phase of life with a smile on her face. She is the mom to young children and those children over time will require another phase of life from her.

Three Kids

As time passes whether she believes in or not she will have other phases. She will be sending her son and daughters off to college. She will be watching them leave the home and have families of their own. For now that seems like a far off place and it is best to enjoy the phase you are in and I believe Lori is wired that way.

The picture below shows Lori with her three kids and husband Damon.

Blackney Family

Lori’s dad is Woody Beck who is a Chiropractor and her dad has created a true family business which Lori is part of. Lori’s brother Ryan is also a Chiropractor. Ryan and Lori spouses are also chiropractors and the name of their family owned business is Beck and Blackley Chiropractor Clinic. They have two offices one in Lumberton and the other in St. Paul’s NC.

Happy Anniversary

I think every man in church this morning felt like Damon Blackley put the pressure on them. I guess Chiropractors know a thing or two about putting pressure on people. When Damon announced to the entire congregation that today was his 12th anniversary you could see all the women go “ah isn’t that sweet” and all the men go “C’mon Man”.

Damon was born and raised in Hendersonville, N.C. He attended North Carolina State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After receiving chiropractic care from his future father in law Woody Beck from previous wrestling injuries, he decided to change career paths, and become a chiropractor.

Damon and Lori attended Palmer College of Chiropractic, Florida Campus, where he received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree, and graduated as Salutatorian of his graduating class. He now enjoys living in Lumberton with his with wife and three children.

He too is going thru phases but like Lori he is enjoying the one he is in right now of being a dad and husband to a great family.
