A friend of a friend-Five Friends-Mack Kenney-September 11

One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for September 11, 2015.

My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.

Today is my youngest son Mack Kenney’s birthday. He turns 18 and will complete his third week of university classes today at East Carolina University.

Mack and Mom

My wife and I have not seen him since we dropped him off in Greenville, NC on Friday August 21, 2015 for him to begin his freshman year. We both are excited to get to see him tonight at home in Lumberton, NC as we celebrate his birthday.

Mack has to share the 9/11 history with his birthday.

Mack was scheduled to have a 4 year old birthday party on that afternoon of September 11, 2001 but it got rescheduled. Not sure a four year old totally understands what was taking place that day but he knew it was sad. Later on he had the birthday party with all the trimmings, friends, and cake.

Tonight he gets to pick the menu for his birthday celebration.  He has already provided his mom with the home cooked items he has been missing at college. He had the option to go out to eat but he choose for her to cook. He doesn’t know it but he gave his mom a gift on his 18th birthday.

Since September 11, 2001 Mack has had five friends that have been part of his life. Three of the five attend East Carolina University with him as fellow freshmen. Those five friends are Hayden Martin-Will Everette-Jace Ward-Raleigh Forrest-Drew Bollinger. Will-Raleigh-Jace and Mack all attend East Carolina University. Drew is at University of South Carolina and Hayden is at University of North Carolina.

For that 2001 Birthday Party and subsequent other birthday events in Mack Kenney life he has been around five other young men. Their names are Hayden Martin, Jace Ward, Raleigh Forrest, Will Everette, and Drew Bollinger. All of them including Mack graduated from Lumberton HS in 2015. Today I know as a dad I am fortunate to have a son like Mack. I hope he realizes how fortunate he is to have the friends he has in his life.

Are have attached some photos below of the relationship the Gang of Six.
