One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for September 28, 2015.
My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.
On Saturday a number of friends from Lumberton, NC traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC to witness the wedding of our good friends Steven Bourquin and Stephanie Crandon.
Even though we had a great turnout from Lumberton we were missing some of Steven and Stephanie’s friends including Don and Maureen Metzger. Don who is a physician assistant was just five days removed from shoulder surgery so he was confined to the house. Don and Steven share the same home state of Ohio. That common bond also means a love for Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns.

Don as a physican assistant is very active and involved with the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (NCAPA). Don received his degree from Duke University and has served as NCAPA President. His background also includes Athletic Training. Don worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer prior to enrolling in PA school.
So as Don recovers from shoulder surgery he has to reverse roles and be the patient and not the PA. That role of a patient also means curtailing things he really loves including golf and hunting. The loss of being able to hunt means he can’t bond in the short term with his son Conor outside doing deer hunting.
When you are a class man like Don you have class friends like Brad Losh. Saturday was youth hunting day in NC. Because Don was only 5 days post-op from shoulder surgery, his long time friend and hunting partner Brad Losh took his son Conor to their hunting lease. Conor got his first buck and Don is one proud dad.

Knitting it all together.
Maureen Metzger can find a way to make time go by with her tremendous talent of knitting. In 2014 on a trip to Auburn, Alabama she killed time during our 8 hour van ride by knitting and participating in all the conversations.

Maureen has knitted a lot of different items including scarfs that depict her loyalty to the Cleveland Browns. When she wears that scarf it seems to attract some interesting men. Photo below of Maureen wearing her scarf at a NFL game.
Maureen also is a women that has an extremely quick wit. Do not try to match her in quick comebacks unless you are interested in receiving the silver medal-Maureen is winning the gold. Her sense of humor has caused me to have several good laughs.
The quality I admire the most in Maureen is the role she plays as a mom.
The best knitting she does is with her family. The Metzgers are close knit. Glad to call them friends.
