A friend of a friend-Tina Bullard-Drew Bullard-November 15

One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for November 15, 2015.

My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.

On Thursday night I ran into Drew Bullard. Drew is one of those men I don’t get to see on a regular basis but he is someone I like to be around because he is going to make me smile or laugh. Thursday night was no exception as he and many other leaders in the community made fitting tributes to Lumberton, NC outgoing mayor of twenty-four years Dr. Raymond Pennington.

Drew’s comments about potential and how Ray Pennington was one of those rare leaders who reached his potential on a number of different levels was pretty good stuff.

Drew is a 1977 graduate of Lumberton High School and has strong connections not only to the Pennington family but to Lumberton, NC.

Drew’s dad Cliff E. Bullard Sr. was a former mayor of Lumberton and was on the City Council for six years. He founded Bullard Restaurants and Clifford Golf Course and was an instructor at Robeson Community College. His dad was a member of First Baptist Church and was a former member of the board of directors of Southern National Bank and the Robeson Savings & Loan Association. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Cliff Bullard Sr. contributed much to the Lumberton we know today.

Today Drew works for Bullard Restaurants. The business has offices in Lumberton and Raleigh, NC. They have a multiple of chains in the business including Burger King, Smithfield Chicken and Bar-B-Q, Moe’s, and Yogurt Café. They have multiple locations across the state.

In Lumberton Drew has a lot of long standing friendships with some pretty good guys. People like David Branch, Kenny Biggs, and Buddy Livingston to mention a few call Drew a friend. Another long-time friend is Scott Pennington. Scott is Ray Pennington’s son and his friendship with Drew is going on fifty years.

Drew is the dad to two bright and exceptional adult children in Lindsey and Andrew.

Drew’s wife Tina also has a strong connection to the Pennington Family as she a life-long friend with Ray Pennington’s daughter Jerri Pennington Hyland.

The Shining Star

In 2013 Tina Bullard and her dance partner Rick Gregory were crowned 2013 United Way “Dancing with the Stars” champions in Robeson County, NC. Tina and Rick not only were smooth dancers but they raised the most money to support United Way in our community. It was not the first time she was recognized as a star.

Tina is a 1981 graduate of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. She has practiced in Lumberton since 1984. In 2009 as a  pharmacist with Southeastern Regional Medical Center, she was named Campbell University’s Roche Pharmaceutics Preceptor of the Year. The award recognizes the contributions to the education of future pharmacists. The award was based solely on the evaluations of students.

Tina like her husband Drew has a lot of lifetime friends from Lumberton, NC. Friends like Sissy Grantham, Bonnie Biggs, and Melissa Musslewhite to name a few.

If you get  a chance to be around Tina and Drew Bullard you will be around some shining stars with good friends that will put a smile on your face.
