One thing I have learned is that good friends have other good friends. This is a series of stories about “friends of my friends”. The post below is the story for November 25, 2015.
My goal in 2015 is to learn or get re-acquainted with 365 people and doing a daily post on the “the friend of a friend” is helping me get closer to my goal.
Today is a tradition at our house. The day before Thanksgiving has a number of standing traditions in our home. One big part of it is spending most of the day getting ready to deep fry a number of turkeys for family and friends. On Wednesday evening the people that I fry turkeys for come by our home to watch their birds get injected with the special marinade. We have fellowship, eat and drink, and of course get the turkeys prepared to be deep fried.

We will have some regulars joining us on Wednesday including John and Candy Atkinson, Tony and Tina Jenkins, John Haskins, Steve and Stephanie Bourquin, and Eric and Amy Dent.
The tradition of having friends gather in our kitchen on Wednesday night.
We will also have some new faces in the crowd tonight.
This year I am doing a turkey for a couple of new people including our former Board of Trustee Chair Wiley Barrett. Another person I am doing a turkey for is Dr. Denny Scruton who is a faculty member at UNC Pembroke in the HPER Department. Denny came to UNC Pembroke in 2010 from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA where he served as an assistant professor in their Kinesiology Department. I am looking forward to showing Denny how to cook a turkey so next year he can be his own deep frying turkey man.
Denny is a really likeable leader. He is a former college basketball player and can be seen in the Jones Center playing pick-up basketball with other faculty, staff, and grad students. The man still has game.

Denny is also involved in serving our campus by serving as chair of the Faculty Awards Committee.
Denny is married to another leader named Kim Scruton. Denny and Kim have two boys and live in Fayetteville, NC.

From Coach to Dean
In 2010 Kimberly Scruton was serving as Head Men and Women Tennis Coach, Interim Athletic Director and Vice President Development as well as instructor in the Department of Kinesiology at Shenandoah University at small Division III college in Virginia. In 2015 she became the dean of the business school at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC.
Kim began her career at Methodist University in 2011, and rose to department chair of Business Administration, Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship in the Reeves School of Business in 2012.
During her career at Methodist, Kim has served on many service committees. She is a member of the QEP Committee, the MBA Accreditation Review Committee, and served as chair of the University Faculty Concerns Committee from 2012-2013.
She is also a mom to two good looking sons.
Tomorrow on Thanksgiving she will be like a lot of women in our country serving up a meal for her family. Glad the Scruton’s will have a deep fried turkey on their table.
