North Carolina People, Places, and Things-January 27
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
Bertie County was established in 1722. Prior to that it had been a precinct of Albemarle County. Albemarle County was officially abolished as an entity in 1739, and all the “precincts” were designated as “counties” including Bertie.
Bertie County is highlighted in red below
The 1950 census had Bertie County sporting a population of 26,439. In twenty years it’s population shrunk to its 1970 census population of 20,528. That 22% loss of citizens is still felt today over 40 years later. The 2010 census only had a population of 21,282.
The county seat of Bertie County is Windsor. This is a county that can best be described as rural.
