North Carolina-Distilling-March 20

North Carolina People, Places, and Things-March 20

I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.

In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.

Three weeks ago I traveled to Kinston, NC and was amazed to learn that Mother Earth Brewing was also a distillery. Photos below show their still and outside shot of brewery. I came to visit to sample their beer and learned something new.

I have never viewed North Carolina as a state the legally distills whiskey. The state has a great history with illegal whiskey a.k.a moonshine.

Yesterday after a  long work week with everything being planned meticulously for a number of functions and meetings I asked my wife if she was willing to do an unscripted weekend trip. She said yes and we headed to Charlotte with no agenda.

We decided to sample some of North Carolina Breweries -Sugar Creek and Olde Mecklenburg in particular. Located right between them I stumbled on to another North Carolina distillery -this one called Great Wagon Road Distilling Co.

Well what I have discovered is that NORTH CAROLINA has a growing distilling industry and in fact there is a website dedicated to showing you where they are all located. I happened to stumble on to two of them looking for great North Carolina beer. If you script it right you might get to see all of them.
