North Carolina People, Places, and Things-April 4
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
One of the state’s most recognizable names in college basketball is Horace “Bones” McKinney. McKinney’s picture hangs in the North Carolina History Museum’s North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and one of his basketball jerseys is also displayed there.
What I found interesting about Bones was he played for NC State in the 1940’s-joined the service in WWII-got discharged and in 1946-47 played for UNC and went to a Final 4- he played in the NBA-then went on to coach Wake Forest and took them to a Final Four in 1962.
