North Carolina People, Places, and Things-April 10
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
North Carolina has lots of iconic figures and one that would be up at the top of any list would have to include NASCAR legend Richard Petty who is 78 years old.
Richard Petty was born on July 2, 1937 in Level Cross, North Carolina. Following in his father Lee Petty’s footsteps, Richard began professional car racing in 1958. During his career he was nicknamed “The King” for winning the Daytona 500 and the NASCAR national championship each seven times during 1964–1981. In all, Petty accumulated 200 victories before retiring in 1992. Richard’s son, Kyle Petty, also became a NASCAR driver.
I found a great collection of photos of Richard Petty. Sometimes a picture (or pictures) is worth a 1000 words.
