North Carolina People, Places, and Things-April 15
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
North Carolina is a great state to play golf-whether you want to consider the prestige of Pinehurst #2 or one of the majestic courses in the mountains North Carolina has a lot to offer in the way of golf courses.
North Carolina is also home to some pretty good disc golf courses including at least two in my home county of Robeson. One is located at UNC Pembroke and the other at Luther Britt Park in Lumberton, NC. The course at UNCP was designed by Aaron Vandermeer a member of the UNCP Music faculty.
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc or frisbee. The sport was formalized in the 1970’s, and shares with “ball golf” the object of completing each hole in the fewest strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, fewest throws). A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the “hole”. The hole can be one of a number of disc golf targets; the most common is called a Pole Hole (see photo above).
