North Carolina People, Places, and Things-April 28
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
The semester is winding down at the university I work at. In fact our university is going to have “reading day” tomorrow which in theory is a day that students dedicate to preparing for their next week’s final exams. What many of my colleagues tell me and I also suspect is that the night before reading day is one last chance to socialize with many friends and that often happens at a college bar. So “Reading Day” in essence becomes “Recovery Day”
I got wondering what does the internet in all of its wisdom say about the best college bars in the state of North Carolina. I was surprised to learn about a place in Boone NC called the TApp Room. TApp is not misspelled just a clever way to say App as in Appalachian State.

For the record their was a second North Carolina bar listed on the website called The Baxter located near Chapel Hill, NC.

Appalachian State’s favorite pub is favored by college students for its casual atmosphere and great food selections like tacos, wings, burgers, and fish and chips. They have both pints and pitchers on tap, and up to 40 selections of brews. The TApp Room is quite aware of its college student clientele, so they even offer a buy one, get one 50% off coupon for visitors.
Their location right across the street from the Convocation Center is convenient. What makes the TApp Room unique is also their specials that they have seven days a week. On Sundays, especially, they have what is called a “blueberry pancake shot,” which costs $4.00. It might be worth spending the four bucks just to find out what that’s all about on a Sunday brunch morning.
