North Carolina People, Places, and Things-May 26
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
If you google the phrase “Los Angles skyline” you most likely will see images of US Bank Tower. The building is located right underneath the full moon in the photo below.
The man credited for creating the skyline of Los Angles grew up in Pembroke, NC and his name is Jim Thomas.
Jim Thomas is one of the real estate industry’s most respected executives. As co-managing partner of Maguire Thomas Partners and founder of Thomas Properties Group, Inc., his impact on the skyline of downtown Los Angeles includes Library Tower, Wells Fargo Center and the Gas Company Tower.
Jim is also the brainchild behind the Thomas Family Center at UNC Pembroke.
Thomas is currently chairman of the board of Parkway Properties, which merged with Thomas Properties Group in 2013. He was a former partner in two Los Angeles law firms and was principal owner of the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association.
He is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College and received his law degree from the Cleveland State Law School. His civic engagement includes board service on the Board of Governors of the Music Center, Town Hall, FAST (Fixing Angelenos Stuck in Traffic), an organization that he founded.
Not bad for a young man that grew up in Southeastern NC.
