North Carolina People, Places, and Things-June 2
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special.
In 1838 parts of Buncombe County got carved up to form Henderson County. It sports a population today of over 100,000 and its county seat is Hendersonville, NC.
Map below shows Henderson County outlined in red.
An intermontane basin is a feature that lies between mountains. The term refers to plateaus and basins formed by geologic processes. Intermontane plateaus are usually flat open highlands formed when land has been uplifted by tectonic activity. Basins are formed by run-off sediment from the surrounding mountains.
The county seat of Hendersonville is situated in a bowl surrounded by mountains. The lowest point in the county is to be found along the Rocky Broad River at approximately 1,200 feet, and the high point is located on Young Pisgah Mountain at approximately 5,200 feet. The Eastern Continental Divide, which lies along the crest of the Blue Ridge, passes through the eastern part of the county.
