North Carolina People, Places, and Things-July 12
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
Over the weekend I saw an episode of Aerial America and they featured Wyoming. That included shots of Yellowstone National Park and Bison.

I got curious to see if bison have every lived in North Carolina and I was surprised to learn that North Carolina has Bison Farms. I also found out that as late as 1750 bison were spotted in North Carolina along the Catawba River at place ironically called Buffalo Ford today.
My research discovered that there are bison being raised in Roxboro, NC at Sunset Ridge Buffalo Farm and another outside Asheville in Leicester called Dr. King’s Farm (Carolina Bison).
At Sunset Ridge they have a gazebo overlooking a lake that people can get married at. Not sure what is romantic about getting married on a buffalo farm but it is unique.

Dr. King’s Farm has a pretty interesting story and the video below tells a little about its origins.
