North Carolina People, Places, and Things-July 14
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
In 2014 I took on the task of drinking one different beer each day. I drank some good ones and some not so good ones that I labeled “One and Done”. The complete list of all 365 beers I drank in 2014 is included below:
I stopped the daily ritual of drinking a different each beer but I am always on the lookout to try good beers especially ones from North Carolina.
We are blessed in North Carolina with some great breweries including Green Man Brewing, NoDa, Birdsong,Wicked Weed, Fullsteam, Natty Greene’s, Lonestar Brewing, Duck Rabbit, Mother Earth, Unknown Brewing, Sugar Creek, Pig Pounder, and many more.
I was surprised to read this past week about some award winning beers from North Carolina that got recognized as medal winners by the US Open Beer Championships. What surprised me were the names of the brewers. I had never heard of several of the winners.
The list of North Carolina Medal Winners is below:
Breweries from Maui to Munich sent in almost 5,000 beers representing over 90 different styles for the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championship. This competition includes professional breweries and award-winning home-brewers.
The full winner’s list can be found at U.S. Open Winners List.
Firestone Brewing out of California was voted Brewer of the Year. I can vouch for their beers and in fact I just drank Wooley Jack a black IPA on Monday night.
I have never had beers from several of these award winning North Carolina brewers including Lynnwood, BearWaters, and Fortnight.
