North Carolina People, Places, and Things-July 31
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
Within the state, there are more than 600 life science companies employing 61,000 people at an average salary exceeding $81,000 a year – which is nearly twice the state’s overall private sector wage, according to the NC Biotechnology Center.
In total, life science companies and institutions in North Carolina generate $73 billion in economic activity, and account for 228,259 direct and indirect jobs.
North Carolina’s colleges and universities confer more than 13,000 degrees annually to students in all STEM fields. Of this group, nearly 40 percent are in the areas of biological sciences and agriculture and natural resources.
Many of the companies listed above have a presence in Research Triangle Park (RTP).
