North Carolina-Carolina Rig-August 18

North Carolina People, Places, and Things-August 18

I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.

In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.

Was channel surfing a week ago and came across a television show on fishing. I heard the term “Carolina Rig”. Was not positive on what it was so went researching.

A Carolina rig is a bass fishing basic. It’s apparently one of the  most efficient tools to catching bass. Simply stated, a Carolina rig catches fish when other methods fail. The basic premise is that this method of fishing keeps the bait near the bottom of the water.

Carolina Rigs apparently are also used in saltwater fishing for flounder, red drum, and sheepshead off the North Carolina coast.

Photos below depict how to assembly a “Carolina Rig”.

I am not a fresh water fisherman but I was curious so I found two YouTube videos.

First one is instruction on how to tie a Carolina Rig

Second video describes how to fish a “Carolina Rig”
