North Carolina People, Places, and Things-August 21
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
I attend First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton NC. I am blessed that our church has great leaders like David and Eva Ruth. They also have a great team that serves our membership.
Even though we have great individual leadership the church is part of an organization and needs structure. I know a little about that structure in our congregation but knew little to nothing about the Presbyterian organization beyond our church so I went looking.
I found out that my church First Presbyterian of Lumberton belongs to Presbytery of Coastal Carolina (PCC).
PCC includes the counties of Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Hoke, Jones, Lee, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, and Scotland and portions of Lenoir, Wayne, Montgomery and Craven counties.
The organization includes:
- 188 Churches
- 5 Hispanic Mission Centers
- 2 Hispanic Churches
- An active Youth Council
- 26,947 Church Members
- 1 year round camp and retreat center (Monroe Camp)
The Presbytery has a key committee called the Presbytery Mission Cabinet (formerly called Council).
In addition to its roles as guardian of the vision of the Presbytery, monitor of administrative and fiduciary requirements, and coordination of ministry across the Presbytery, the Presbytery Mission Cabinet is charged with coordinating certain key functions of the whole Presbytery.
The Presbytery puts out a comprehensive directory of everyone involved in the organization and if interested it can be found at the link below:
