North Carolina-Dreamchaser’s Brewery-August 23

North Carolina People, Places, and Things-August 23

I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.

In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.

For those that know me I love to taste new beers. Check out my 2014 Beer of the Day list.

I also love to sample the ever growing number of breweries that are out there. I have been to a number of breweries in North Carolina but my visits don’t make a dent. One reason is new breweries are opening up all the time in the state.

Just over the weekend a good friend of mine Tony Jenkins was telling me about two great small breweries in Fuqua Varina, NC called Fainting Goat Brewing  and Draft Line Brewing. Tony is a man that just came back from Russian River Brewing in Sonoma, CA so I listen when he talks beer.

Fuqua Varina is located just south of Raleigh and those two breweries join Aviator Brewing inside the city limits.

As I was researching those two breweries I discovered that in Waxhaw NC a new brewery opened on May 21, 2016. That story of how it became a reality is pretty interesting. the name of the brewery is The Dreamchaser Brewery.

The owner of the Waxhaw brewery Neil Gimon looked at the positions he had with some of the largest companies in the country, and how many times he had been laid off, and decided to work to be in control of his own destiny.

After being a home brewer for over 20 years and winning awards as well as thumbs up from people that drank his beer, Neil looked at the growing craft beer movement and thought ‘there are great breweries up in Charlotte, but nothing down here in Waxhaw.   In fact, the closest brewery was over 20 miles away in Charlotte, and there is a beer hungry audience in the area that was looking to have a great craft brewery in their backyard!

Great blog post linked below I recommend you check out-The Dreamchaser Brewery is on my bucket list.
