North Carolina People, Places, and Things-September 16
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
Back in the 1980’s when I was coaching basketball my teams played a number of games at Wingate University. They had a small gym that was basically a Quonset Hut until they opened Cuddy Arena in 1986.
I read online today that they are expanding their recreational facilities.
Wingate is in the process of adding on a new building on campus. The school is very excited to be building a new Health, Wellness, and Recreation facility.
This building will consists of many new features such as a multipurpose activity court, a suspended running track, racquetball courts, locker rooms, 2 basketball courts, 2 fitness studios and multiple areas for weight and cardio training. This building will be Wingate’s largest building ever built on campus.
Along with the space also comes a large price. Dr. Jessica Teague, Dean of the College of Sports Sciences announced that the cost of the building is estimated to be around 19 million dollars.
