North Carolina-Earl Owenby-October 28

North Carolina People, Places, and Things-October 28

I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.

In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.

Shelby NC is not exactly the place you might think of when discussing filmmakers but one of the most successful indie filmmakers in the United States (from $ figures anyway) is Earl Owensby from Shelby, NC.  Earl Owensby was born in 1936. He made his first film in 1973 for $500,000 and went on to bring in $5 million by selling the international distribution rights for that film Challenge.

Earl Owensby Studios went on to make over 35 films and he produced, starred, co-wrote and co-directed many of his films with most of them turning major profits.

Want to read some interesting stuff check out the GWU Film Critic Blog where I learned about Earl.
