North Carolina People, Places, and Things-December 14
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
In 1850 parts of Surry County were carved out to create Yadkin County. The county seat is Yadkinville. Map of Yadkin County is outlined in red on map below.
Yadkin County marks the eastern end of the Brushy Mountains range; none of the peaks rise more than 400–500 feet above the surrounding countryside. The highest point in the county is Star Peak near Jonesville, at 1,590 feet above sea level.
Yadkin County is also part of the Yadkin Valley. The Yadkin Valley is North Carolina’s first federally-recognized American Viticulture Area (AVA). The Yadkin Valley has over 35 Wineries/Vineyards in the area. There is a wine, view and experience for just about anyone in the Yadkin Valley.
