North Carolina People, Places, and Things-December 26
I am the dad to five adult children. As they were growing up I attempted to remind them they were special and to implore them to learn something new. My goal was to do that daily.
In 2016 my goal is to learn something new daily on the people, places, and things that make North Carolina special. Everyday this year I am doing a post on what I have learned new.
One of North Carolina great treasures is Bald Head Island. People today have forgotten how it got it starts and the trials the first families on the island endured until power came to Bald Head Island.
Lumberton, NC had one of those first families Bill Berne. In fact they were one of the first two families to build on Bald Head Island. Dr. Bill Berne served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1967, and moved to Lumberton in 1970 after completing his residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He was a radiologist.
There is a great article in Our State Magazine that profiles those first families the “Generator Society”.
