@OglethorpeUniv @OglethorpeAlum #StormyPetrel January 1 2017

On Jan 1, 2014 I began doing daily posts at my blog called coach4aday.wordpress.com

My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.

The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and  turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.

In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.

I actually have a summary list of each of beer I drank in 2014. That “Beer of the Day” list can be found at link below:

I have a summary list on my 2015 “A Friend of a Friend” posts.

I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

If you want to follow the blog via email go to the bottom right of the post and click the follow button.

My twitter handle is @coach4aday2 if you want to follow my blog that way.

Before I start I want to thank a colleague Justin Smith @JustinSmithNC for the inspiration on my 2017 idea as we walked to lunch one day on the campus of UNC Pembroke.

Name of Institution:      Oglethorpe University

Location:                             Atlanta, GA

 I have never been to Oglethorpe University but for five years (1980-85) the name of their former basketball coach Garland Pinholster and his Wheel Offense were part of my life as Assistant Basketball Coach at Western Carolina University. Our Head Coach Steve Cottrell was one of the few Division I coaches who still had his team running the “Pinholster Wheel”.

In researching Garland Pinholster I found a great YouTube Video that tells a lot about Garland’s rich life.  He was more than a coach and became quite a figure in Georgia politics.

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is a liberal arts and sciences university that unites a close-knit campus community with big city culture and opportunities. Today, Oglethorpe enrolls 1,180 students, representing 32 states and 33 countries.

Oglethorpe may have one of the great nicknames in college athletics –Stormy Petrels
