My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Utah State University
Location: Logan, UT
As I said in a post last week I like to learn about universities that my friends or colleagues have a connection to. One of those universities is Utah State. A former softball coach I hired at UNC Pembroke Steve Johnson is now the softball coach at Utah State. He is doing great things in bringing a winning culture to that program.
The time Steve was at UNC Pembroke was the high water mark for our university including a 2008 NCAA Division II appearance but current UNC Pembroke Coach Brittany Bennett has @UNCPSOFTBALL looking to mimic his legacy.
In 1888 The Agricultural College of Utah (UAC) was founded on March 8. Two years later they had a student. In 1929 The Utah Agricultural College (UAC) is renamed the Utah State Agricultural College. In 1957 Utah State Agricultural College becomes Utah State University.
The setting the campus is located on is really nice. Photo below of the campus quad with mountains as backdrop.
Some famous alumni from Utah State include Senator Harry Reid-Nevada-the late LaVelle Edwards famous football coach from BYU-Merlin Olson the former actor, announcer and professional football player- and Seattle Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner.
Utah State has an enrollment of 28,000 students with students from all 29 counties in Utah plus all 50 states.
