My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Hanover College
Location: Hanover, IN
I do not follow politics as closely as many of my friends and professional colleagues. Yet I was intrigued to learn that our new Vice-President Mike Pence first full time job out of college was as an admissions counselor for his Alma Mater-Hanover College.

Pence, who was the third Hanover graduate to serve as Indiana’s governor, was presented with the College’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2005. He returned to campus in 2008 to receive an honorary doctorate of laws and deliver the commencement address.
A history major and Dean’s List student while at Hanover, Pence served terms as president of United Campus Ministries Board, Vespers and Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity. He was a member of Hanover Christian Fellowship and The Triangle staff (student newspaper). He also delivered the senior class address during his graduation (see photo below).
Other Hanover alums include Woody Harrelson who is an actor that drew notoriety on the TV show Cheers.
I usually don’t offer up unsolicited advice but AACRAO the non-profit, voluntary, professional association for admission counselors and others may want to consider US VP Mike Pence as a future speaker at their national convention.
