@HCBallroom February 24

My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.

The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and  turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.

In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.

I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Holy Cross University

Location: Worchester, MA

I have been to Holy Cross University. One of the best student managers I have had as a college basketball coach was a young man named Matt Sullivan who was with me when I was at Winthrop University. Today Matt is an attorney in South Carolina. One summer on a recruiting trip I stopped in and met Matt’s family and got a tour of the campus.

I was always fascinated with Holy Cross because as a young boy I loved to hear stories about Bob Cousy who played basketball at Holy Cross and later in the NBA. Bob was known as the “Houdini of the Hardwood”. He responsible for popularizing the behind-the-back dribble.

I also recently learned that Holy Cross has a Ballroom Dance Club and Team.

Members have the opportunity to participate in social and performance events, compete in regular intercollegiate competitions, or simply attend weekly lessons and practices.

The Holy Cross Ballroom Dance Team travels to several different local area competitions each year that are hosted by other schools. Some of the schools they compete against include Brown, MIT, Yale, Tufts, UConn, RPI, WPI, UMass, RIC, and Harvard.
