My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: California State-Fullerton
Location: Fullerton CA
Back when I was in college you often had to show your ID or give your ID# to check out a book at the library, get admitted to university event, or do something neat at the student union. Losing your ID back in the day while I was a college student meant you were denied access until it got replaced.
The Student Recreation Center, Cal State Fullerton has the lost ID dilemma solved. You are admitted by a scan of your hand. In order to pass the front desk, students use biometric hand scanning technology. Members place a hand in a device called the Handkey II. In less than one second the device identifies 31,000 points on the hand.
As the hand correlates with the member’s record on file, the swing arm opens, allowing the member to pass through.
The 95,000 square-foot facility, located between the State College parking structure and the Titan Gym, is nearly twice as large as local 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness gyms.
