My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: California State University-Chico
Location: Chico CA
I am going to profile universities the next couple of days that have qualified for the NCAA Division II Basketball Championships. One of those schools is the #6 seed in the West Region, California State University-Chico.
In 1887, the California Legislature approved the creation of the Northern Branch of the State Normal School. After much debate, Chico was chosen as the site of the new teachers college. The Chico Normal School opened its doors to 90 students in 1889. As the college grew, its name changed to reflect that growth. In 1972, they became California State University, Chico. The University, commonly called “Chico State”.
One of the iconic building on campus is Kendall Hall.
The numbers in the sidewalks at the entrance to Kendall Hall cover time capsules prepared by each class year. This tradition was discontinued in 1969 but rekindled in 2000 with the help of the Associated Students and the Alumni Association. Ever since, each year alums from past decades are invited to campus during Founders Week to witness the opening of their classes’ time capsule and to reminisce about their days on campus.
Wishing Basketball Coach Greg Clink and his Chico Wildcats good luck in the NCAA Tournament. Maybe they can place something special in that 2017 time capsule.
