My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Today my family and friends will be hosting my 2nd Annual Beer Snob Pig Picking.
This new status has exposed me to other beer elitists who thought it would be a great idea in 2016 to have a “Beer Snob Pig Picking”. We did it last April and it was a lot of fun. So today we are going to hold the “2nd Annual Beer Snob Pig Picking”.
We will have 50-60 people gather in my backyard under some mighty pecan trees and drink craft beer, eat some pig, and listen to a musical playlist I have created on Spotify. That music will blaring from my Sonos Speakers.
One of the artist on that list will be Ryan Montbleau.
I discovered Ryan by chance by listening to a weekly discover playlist that Spotify puts out each week. I fell in love with his lyrics and his sound. If you haven’t listened to him check him out.
Ryan is a graduate of Villanova University located just outside Philadelphia in Villanova PA.
Villanova was founded in 1842 by the Order of Saint Augustine, the university traces its roots to old Saint Augustine’s Church, Philadelphia, which the Augustinian friars founded in 1796, and to its parish school, Saint Augustine’s Academy, which was established in 1811.
Today Villanova has more than 10,000 undergraduate, graduate and law students in the University’s six colleges—the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Villanova School of Business, the College of Engineering, the College of Nursing, the College of Professional Studies and the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law.
Photo of Villanova University is shown below:
After starting college as a chemical engineering major at Villanova, Montbleau, picked up his roommate’s guitar and decided to go a more artistic route. He changed his major to English and started writing songs and playing for his dorm mates, albeit shyly.
It wasn’t until the second semester of his senior year that he worked up the nerve to start singing, too.
In 2016 Villanova broke the hearts of a few people that will be attending today’s Beer Snob Pig Picking by defeating UNC Chapel Hill in NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. That pain was eased when the Tar Heels won the 2017 Championship earlier this month.
I think it will be safe for my Tar Heel friends attending today’s Beer Snob Pig Picking to listen to songs from a Villanova man today. One of Ryan’s songs is I’d rather be 75 and Sunny let’s hope he is a prophet!
