My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.

The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.

In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.

I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: University of Utah

Location: Salt Lake City UT

Tonight I will watch the NCAA Division II Baseball Championships at the University of Mount Olive. I got wondering what college teams plays in the largest stadium. The answer is the University of Utah. They play there games at Spring Mobile Ballpark which has a seating capacity of 15,500.

In addition to being home to the University of Utah Spring Mobile also is home for the  Salt Lake Bees, a Triple A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. The ball park features sensational views of the Wasatch Mountains. See below.

The University of Utah, is located in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, is the flagship institution of higher learning in Utah. Founded in 1850, it serves more than 32,000 students from across the U.S. and the world.

Two notable Utah graduates include J. Willard Marriott and Stephen Covey. I am fans of both of these leaders. I am a loyal patron of Marriott Hotel properties and am proud of my platinum elite status.

I also have been a disciple of the Franklin Covey Planner since 1988. I don’t begin a day without consulting my planner.

J. Willard Marriott, Sr. founded Marriott International, Inc., a worldwide hospitality company that had its origins when he and his wife, Alice S. Marriott BA’27, opened a nine-seat root beer stand in Washington, D.C., in 1927; he died in 1985.

Stephen Covey was a business consultant, best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and other books, founder of the former Covey Leadership Center, and vice-chair of FranklinCovey Co., a management and leadership development firm.
