My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.

The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.

In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.

I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Augustana University

Location: Sioux Falls SD

Last week a friend asked me to serve as a reference for a position he is interested in at Augustana University. The University is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a city with a population of more than 178,000 in a metropolitan area of approximately 260,000.

Augustana’s beautifully maintained, tree-lined campus is situated on 100 acres in a residential area.

Augustana

Founded in 1860, Augustana is a selective, comprehensive university affiliated with the Lutheran Church. The university has approximately 1,900 students from 34 states and 38 countries.

To say that Augustana has had a number of homes in its history would be an understatement. It got it’s start in Hillsboro IL in 1835 beginning as Hillsboro Academy. It has had multiple homes across Illinois, Iowa, and eventually South Dakota.

You can read the history of its many moves at link below:

Augustana has a lot of notable alumni including the president of a great golf equipment catalog called Austad’s Golf. The president is Dave Austad and his dad Oscar Austad, started the first Golf catalog in America from their home. Photo of Oscar top and Dave below.

In 2015 Augustana College became Augustana University. I hope my friend gets a chance to move to Augustana.
