My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Kittrell College
Location: Kittrell NC
The entire year I have focused on colleges that are still in existence. The one exception I did a post on St. Joseph’s of Indiana which closed in May 2017. That post had me curious on just how many colleges in North Carolina had closed or merged. The list I found was quite extensive. In fairness the list included name changes of many colleges.
Here is a link to the list:
One that I found interesting was Kittrell College. Below is a some info on found on Kittrell at NC Pedia.
The historically black Kittrell College was founded in 1886 by the North Carolina Conference of African Methodist Episcopal Church. The school colors were blue and gold and the mascot was the bulldog. Kittrell started as a high school and in 1889 secondary education was added. The last high School class to graduate was in 1965 and Kittrell College was closed in 1975.
