My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Marlboro College
Location: Marlboro VT
This year has been rewarding as I continue to learn about colleges I have never heard of. My post today on Marlboro College falls into that category.
Walter Hendricks established Marlboro College in 1946, and had the goal it would be a different kind of college—one where students were not just participants but active contributors to the academic and community life of campus. Mr. Hendricks maintained that learning and living were inseparable and that all education was self‐education. He had a solid educational background, however.

In the beginning students and faculty worked together, pounding nails and sawing lumber to turn three neighboring hill farms in southern Vermont into the core of a scenic rural campus shown above.
The school is very small with just about 300 students enrolled in undergraduate courses. What makes it unique is Marlboro promotes independence by requiring students to participate in the planning of their own programs of study and to act responsibly within a self-governing community.
Marlboro does not sponsor collegiate athletics per se but sponsors athletic activities at by the Recreation Program, and range from organized sports like soccer to outdoor pursuits.
For fans of the TV Shows Sex and the City and Law & Order-Chris Noth is a former student.
I don’t know if I will ever get close to Marlboro College but if I don’t I know a little more about this fascinating place.
