My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: Coker College
Location: Hartsville SC
I have a number of past and present connections to Coker College Athletics. Coker College is located in Hartsville SC. Coker College was founded in 1908 and has one of the great nicknames in NCAA Division II sports, the Cobras.
The current Director of Athletics at Coker is Dr. Lynn Griffin a 1990 UNC Pembroke graduate and former student athlete for the Braves. When she was a college athlete I was the men’s basketball coach at her alma mater.
Coker actually got its start in 1894 as Welsh Neck High School. In 1908 with the advent of a state wide public education system in South Carolina the Board of Trustee decided to create a single gender college for women. Coker remained a women’s college up until 1969.
Today Coker has about 1250 students that come from all over the US and the world.
In the past I have written about former Coker coaches and athletic directors. Three past posts I did in 2015 featured profiles on some of my favorite people I have met through college athletics.
