My daily post theme for 2017 is on Colleges and Universities.
The plan for starting my blog back in 2014 was at the urging of fellow coaching colleagues to share posts on leadership and/or motivation. Somehow that idea got derailed and turned into daily posts on one theme for an entire year.
In 2014 my daily posts were on the “Beer of the Day”, 2015 it was “A Friend of a Friend”, 2016 I wrote about “North Carolina”, and for 2017 I will focus on “Colleges and Universities”.
I have been associated with colleges since I was 18 and I love them. I have coached/worked at four different universities and in my professional and personal travels visited 100’s more. Each college has something in its history that I want to share that to me make it unique or personal.

Name of University: University of California Santa Cruz
Location: Santa Cruz CA
Nearly twenty years ago my wife and I took a trip to California and part of our visit was catching up on the daughter of two great friends. At the time of our visit she was a enrolled at University of California Santa Cruz. Her name was Tina Prevatte and I wrote about her in July of 2015. That post is below:
Nestled amongst rolling, forested hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Monterey Bay, just 75 miles south of San Francisco lies the 2000 acre campus of the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC). The campus is actually about 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean but the campus is vibrant with some 16,000 plus students.
The mascot for UC Santa Cruz is the Banana Slug.
In 1980 UCSC joined the NCAA as a Division III member. At that time they had to officially adopt a mascot. There was a battle between a Sea Lion and Banana Slug.
