August 10, 2018 All You Can Eat Buffets
Post by John Rancke
Fullers, Fred Chason’s Grandson’s All You Can Eat, Golden Corral, Golden China, and all those seafood buffets in Myrtle Beach and Restaurant Row, Casey’s Buffet in Wilmington. You’ve seen the one that advertises over 200 items on their buffet (Benjamin’s ?).
Imagine being the person that has to shell the baby shrimp they use for the Calabash style shrimp at Benjamin’s. I have a hard enough time peeling the 25-30 shrimp I will boil at home and they are 3 times the size of those little things.
Best items I’d had on the All You Can Eat buffets in Lumberton over the years have been the Honey Chicken from Golden China (can’t find it anywhere else and I’ve looked) back in the 90’s, the corn and the round yams at Fullers, and the gizzards and fried chicken at Fullers.
The best part about going to Golden Corral is the hope that I could see some kid put the cotton candy under the chocolate fountain and create a mess. It may have already happened because the last time I went to GC (yea- guilty pleasure about twice a year) I didn’t see any cotton candy.
But the name of the game is MONEY. So how do they do it. Click the link below for a really informative you tube video that reveals the secrets.
But you have to be careful when you do take out at a Chinese restaurant. The first time I did it I tried to be frugal and take little helpings except for that Honey Chicken. When it was weighed it was more than 2 lbs. Got 3 meals out of it that week.
Avoid the trough except that one night a year you want to pig out!
