September 4, 2018 Carolina Girls vs California Girls
Written by John Rancke
Many years ago General Johnson and Chairmen of the Board recorded a hit record called “Carolina Girls” played all across the Atlantic Coast states. It is known today as “Beach Music” Classic.
It has been played by every beach band that has ever performed in any little town across the South. Voted in the Top 20 beach songs of all time. It was a regional hit and everyone that listens to music in the South knows the tune. It was written in 1973 by J.D. Shropshire, Jr. It was recorded and released by the Chairmen of the Board in 1980. Considered the best Carolina Beach Song of All Time.
Over on the west coast of America back in 1965, the Beach Boys released a song written by Mike Love and Brian Wilson called California Girls. It went to number 3 on the Billboard charts and is generally considered the Best of the California Beach Music Sound.
A few years ago, a young lady by the name of Katy Perry, with the assistance of the famous rapper Snoop Dog recorded a hit called California Gurls that took over the airways of America. Great tune, lyrics. I loved it.
Some guys are partial to California girls and some prefer Carolina girls. But I think Elvis got it right with Girls, Girls, Girls.
