Tidbits I Learned This Weekend

I was guilty of self-indulgence this past weekend. I woke up Saturday and performed a number of post hurricane cleaning chores with my wife. After that two hour task I sat in front of the TV in my man room the rest of the day watching college football. On Sunday I filled in as an usher at church during early service and it was back to watching NFL football all day. Full disclosure I did attend a session meeting at church from 5:30-6:45.

My goal was just to get an overdose of weekend normal. Weekend normal for me in the fall means watching SOME football but this weekend I binged. My overindulgence did result in me learning a few things.

Graduates of Highland Park HS in Texas

Clayton Kershaw of the LA Dodgers is a pitcher. He graduated from Highland Park HS in Dallas TX in 2006. He is the highest paid player in MLB at $34,000,000 per year. Matthew Stafford the QB for the NFL Detroit Lions also graduated from Highland Park HS in 2006 and his salary for 2018 is $26,500,000 per year. Read a story about them growing up and attending Highland Park here

Other Highland Park HS grads include Bobby Layne and Angie Harmon.

Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield-Texas Tech

Baker Mayfield – Cleveland Browns started out his career at Texas Tech in 2013 as a walk-on. He eventually started at QB for the Red Raiders then got hurt and transferred to Oklahoma. Patrick Mahomes played Quarterback at Texas Tech beginning in 2014. In 2016 Texas Tech played Oklahoma and both of them were the starting QB’s. Oklahoma came away victorious, 66-59, with Mayfield besting his former team. Mayfield threw for 545 yards and seven touchdowns. Mahomes threw for 734 yards and five touchdowns. That was a record shattering day for combined passing yardage.

The two will face each other in Cleveland OH on Sunday November 4, 2018.
