December 24, 2018 Christmas Eve
Post by John Rancke
Christmas Eve, that day when many parents will give their children some of Santa’s secret elixir to help them settle down for the night while poring themselves a few glasses of Eggnog.
Back in the 90’s when we lived on 26th street in Lumberton, NC Santa’s secret elixir was provided by Ellen McLean, our neighbor across the street. It consisted of a hint of Benadryl slipped into some fruity juice. Also known as a Mickey in Hollywood lingo. Guaranteed to help them relax and doze while Santa does his thing.
For the adults there is Eggnog to enjoy. There are many different recipes to make eggnog but I am partial to my Mother’s concoction:
½ gallon of vanilla Ice Milk
½ gallon of Coffee Ice Cream
1 large container of commercial Egg Nog
As much bourbon as you want
Put all the ingredients into a large punch bowl and allow the ice cream and ice milk to begin to melt down. You may replenish the ingredients as you so desire.
Trust me the Coffee Ice Cream is the secret ingredient!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
