Each year the blog takes on a different focus. In 2019 the goal is for each post to bring you the reader a lesson, quote, message, or story that can help you grow.

Retirement leads to the opportunity to pursue long overdue activities. One for me was purging a book shelf and cabinet that had been left alone for five plus years. About the same time I was doing my cleaning I read about Paperback Swap on a blog I followed.

paperback swap

Paperback Swap is a way for readers to exchange books they want to get rid of with books they want to own. You create an account, post books you’re willing to part with, members request them, and you ship them off. In return you receive “credits” that you use to request books from other users.

If you want to read books this is an interesting way to do it.

Well I posted a few books earned a few credits and requested the book called The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

The book is a graphic novel about following your DREAM. Here are my takeaways from the book.

Your dream has four obstacles that have to be overcome to accomplish it. The story in the book is about each step.

  • First we are constantly bombarded with messages and advice that your dream is IMPOSSIBLE.
  • Second our LOVE of others becomes an obstacle-Pursuing a dream means dealing with the emotion of abandoning everything else including those that LOVE you. Those that LOVE you want you to be happy not control us.
  • Third is FEAR. The fear of our defeats that we will certainly encounter as we pursue any dream.
  • Fourth is the GUILT of achievement. You look around as your nearly accomplish your dream and deal with the emotion you are not good enough and don’t deserve it. The GUILT is so strong that it overwhelms the joy and happiness the dream was meant to create.

If you want to learn about the book The Alchemist here is a summary.

Don’t let you dreams die!
