The week of Feb. 4-10 I took a trip from North Carolina to Maine to visit my brother Tom Kenney.

I had never been to Maine in the winter and I took in the beauty despite the cold with a couple of walks in the woods of Maine.

Even though I did some walking last week mostly what I did was drive.  In those 6 days I covered 2248 miles to be exact thru 11 states and DC.

That is a lot of time in the car by yourself.  So that entire week I listened to a number of my Spotify playlists. Some I hadn’t cued up in quite some time. One particular list was songs performed by Rod Stewart.

Rod Stewart

His songs had a number of lyrics that resonated with me. It was almost like he was giving me a winter tune-up on life.  I am going to share the lyrics I enjoyed at the end of post.

Rod Stewart has a raspy voice that is hard to replicate and he is still with us today at age 74. If you are a person that walked the earth in the 1970’s you probably know his first hit was “Maggie May”.

Here are some Rod Stewart lyrics that I think we all should think about:

Young Turks

Young hearts be free tonight. Time is on your side,
Don’t let them put you down, don’t let ’em push you around,
Don’t let ’em ever change your point of view.

Every Picture Tells A Story

I firmly believe that I didn’t need anyone but me
I sincerely thought I was so complete
Look how wrong you can be

Ain’t Love a Bitch

Been in pain and I’ve been in shame
But ain’t love a bitch
I been in fights, locked away for nights
But ain’t love a bitch
I been tailed, impaled, strung up
and nailed and left without a stitch
I been scratched ‘n’ taxed ‘n’ finally axed
But ain’t love a bitch

Some Guys Have All the Luck

Some guys have all the luck
Some guys have all the pain
Some guys get all the breaks
Some guys do nothing but complain

Sunny Side of the Street

I used to walk in the shade with all them blues on parade
Now I’m not afraid ’cause this rover crossed over.

If I never had a cent I’ll be as loaded as old Rockefeller
With that gold dust ’round my feet on the sunny side, on the side, side of the street, oh yeah

What A Difference A Day Makes

What a difference a day makes
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain.

Give Rod Stewart a listen this winter and see if he gets your perspective on life tuned up.
