Each year the blog takes on a different focus. In 2019 the goal is for each post to bring you the reader a lesson, quote, message, or story that can help you grow.
I hope you don’t ASSUME I am an excellent writer.
Writing a blog means learning to get better at writing. Trust me I have lots to learn.
One of the tricky things about being a writer is using words correctly. One word I recently learned about is ASSUME. The image below made me smile.
What makes the English language so difficult is somewords are very similar but different. That is the case with ASSUME and presume.
When you ASSUME you are taking something for granted without proof. When you presume you have some evidence or probability working in your favor.
The difference between the two words is really all about how much confidence you have. It is similar to our lives.
Give a few examples
- Someone has been at a company for a year and they ASSUME they will get a raise.
- Someone has asked their supervisor for a raise and they PRESUME it will be granted.
In both cases above the individual may be wrong on if they will get a raise.
The difference is when you PRESUME versus ASSUME you are increases your odds.
