Each year the blog takes on a different focus. In 2019 the goal is for each post to bring you the reader a lesson, quote, message, or story that can help you grow.
Just a couple of weeks ago I came across the word doxing and did a post on it.
Yesterday I come across the word STANNING. I read a social media headline where Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman were STANNING their daughter. I didn’t know what it meant.
So today STANNING becomes a post. I am afraid admitting I am clueless on something so trendy will result in my “hip” rankings to plummet further. The only saving grace is a few regular readers like John Rancke, John Tanner, Eileen Callas, Kevin Murray, and Joe Terranova have never used STANNING in a sentence. So the post is more like a PSA for them and few others.
When your musical tastes do not include an affinity for hip-hop or rap apparently you can be left at the station on your attempt to ride the enlightenment train in our digital age. It happened to me on understanding about STANNING.
“Stan” is a song. It was released on November 21, 2000 as the third single from Eminem’s third album The Marshall Mathers LP (2000). It was number one in twelve countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland and Australia.
The song “Stan” is about an obsessed fan. At some point after the song was released people apparently not in my social circle started using “Stan” and “I Stan” as a way of saying they like something.
First let me admit I at least know who Eminem is but had no idea he had a song called “Stan”. You want to feel out of touch admit you haven’t heard a number #1 song.
So I went and found the music video and watched it.
Got a confession I liked the song and was impressed with the collaboration between Eminem and Dido.
For the record there will not be any bleaching of my hair and I have no intentions of STANNING either artist.
