Each year the blog takes on a different focus. In 2019 the goal is for each post to bring you the reader a lesson, quote, message, or story that can help you grow.
Sometimes life forces you to make a choice. One situation I believe most of us face is how to balance who to help and who to avoid. I make that decision sound distrusting and cold but it is how I have actually felt on occasions. I don’t think I am alone.
The dilemma is how do we use DISCERNMENT as a decision making tool.
There are lots of books on DISCERNMENT
One of the downsides of being a nice and caring person is that people may try to take advantage of you. It is a sad fact but some people in this world are selfish, lovers of money, or simply greedy. When they see someone nice, they hope we will be an easy mark and hope to con whatever they can out of them. This can happen in lots of forms asking for money, asking for help with some task, or even asking for your time.
Not everyone in this world is going to want to follow Christian principles but I came across a great article about this topic.
The article made three points
- Christians are called to be generous and help others
- Christians do not have to give in to all circumstances
- Christians should rebuke those who sinfully take advantage of people, or mismanage their resources
I will confess there still is not easy answer but the best DISCERNMENT for Christians is to listen to what the Holy Spirit is telling us.
