Circle
When you are building a leadership team you need to consider having an “Inner CIRCLE”. A leadership team doesn’t have to be confined to work. It can be spiritual leadership or alliance with friends.
John Maxwell describes this concept in his book “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”. Number 11 in that book is found below:
This “Inner CIRCLE” is the same as the starting five in basketball and they need to possess not only fundamentals of your profession but the values outlined above.
Another way to frame Maxwell’s Law of the Inner Circle would be to look at these five questions:
1. Do you see POTENTIAL in them?
2. Do they bring a POSITIVE energy to you?
3. Do they support you PERSONALLY?
4. Do they PRODUCE results?
5. Are they a PROVEN leader who can develop other proven leaders?
My opinion if you cannot answer yes to at least the first question a person needs to remain outside of your inner CIRCLE.
I have seen leaders get allured by answering YES only to question #4. The temptation of results often causes a flawed leader to enter your inner CIRCLE. That often leads to heartache down the road.
Carefully choose you inner CIRCLE.
